Book Review Feng Shui for the Soul
Denis Linn is an international lecturer, healer and writer and her book Sacred Space, initiated the Space Clearing movement.
Feng Shui for soul is a book of three parts. In the first section she shows us how to create a home for the soul. In the second section she looks at how to awaken the natural forces in the home and in the third and last part, she introduces the reader to Medicine Wheel Feng Shui.
If you are looking for a book that is traditional Feng Shui, then this isn’t the book for you. What Denise tells us in Feng Shui for the Soul is a wonderful interweaving of Feng Shui, spiritualism, healing and instinct.
In the first part of the book Denise examines the Soul through a personal story and then goes on to outline what the soul needs, a sense of belonging, a feeling of security, harmony with nature and sacred space. She then goes on to explain how to achieve this. Throughout, the book there are short meditative journeys that she has created in order for the reader to connect with their home and find out what the soul needs.
She uses grounding, spiritual growth and nature and a lot of visualisation as she guides us through each stage of growth. She looks at how the objects in our home influence us, in order to express our individuality.
Feng Shui is used instinctively and doesn’t confirm to the strict regime that other Feng Shui authors aspire to. It it’s not broken, don’t fix it. If it feels good, then it’s good Feng Shui.
In the second part of the book, Awakening Natural forces, Denise shows us how to activate the forces of nature into our lives and bring the rhythm of nature into our homes. She then talks about sacred geometry and what it represents to us now and follows this with a graphic description the elements and how to integrate them into our lives. It’s absolutely fascinating, with so much detail and information, Again this section has many short meditations which allow you to connect to e.g. The Spirits of the directions, Invoking the Four Guardians of the Cardinal Directions into your home.
The last part of the book is about the ‘Medicine Wheel Energy Map’. She uses the principle of the 4 elements and directions to create a home balanced by the transformation energy of the Medicine Wheel; she calls the Medicine Wheel Feng Shui.
Denise has written a totally absorbing book, she states that ‘Your home is the connecting point between heaven and earth. It is the place of your centre, your axis; it connects you to the land’.
